Our story
The Braithwaite family has farmed the same land for three generations.
Independent Ag’s ‘home farm’ at Benermbah, NSW was born and evolved from three generations of the Braithwaite family’s hard work and diligence, starting from our original settler block from the 1940’s.
Today, our 1400 ha farming operation is led by Drew Braithwaite and our team of highly skilled farm managers and contracted ag professionals.
Independent Ag was formed in 2017 with the objective of offering a professional, high quality and efficient management service using the latest technology and sustainable farming practices.
Our company is based near Griffith, NSW in the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area. The region is one of Australia’s most productive food growing areas in Australia, producing everything from rice, cotton, cereals, citrus, grapes and nuts.
We have experience in broadacre cropping and horticultural agronomy, and work with research and development partners to lead innovation and best practice in the industry.
Our use of the latest farm technology and management systems allows us to provide full traceability of our resource use, product specification, and farm practices – all the way from planting to downstream supply chain customers.
Drew Braithwaite
Independent Ag’s Managing Director Drew Braithwaite is an experienced farm manager, agronomist, research and development professional, and agricultural innovator.
He has a long list of achievements in the agricultural sector, including:
- Nuffield scholarship on comparative returns for branded and commodity marketing
- Chair of the rice industry’s R&D committee, responsible for guiding R&D investment priorities and developing new commercial partnerships.
- Qualified agronomist specialising in seed production.
Drew’s philosophy is to plan for all contingencies, be timely, and be precise in his execution of a cropping program or R&D project.
